A batting cage net covers the entire area of a batting cage to contain the baseballs during batting practice. Cage nets cover the top and the four sidewalls of the cage, preventing the balls from flying out of the contained area.
A batting cage net can be made of wound nylon or polyurethane usually with a one and three-fourth-inch square mesh. The edges are bound together by knots that form the net into a diamond or square shape. Different knotting systems are applied to different types of net, and each knotting system has a unique quality or benefit over the other. Twisted knots and braided knots are the two main types of knots used in a batting cage net. Twisted knots provide the strongest breaking strength, while braided knots provide the highest abrasion resistance.
What to consider when buying a batting cage net:
- Strength: Choose the heaviest batting cage net that can fit your budget. A heavier net does not wear out easily and allows you to hit the hardest and the fastest that you can without worrying about the net’s durability.
- Construction: Choose a batting cage net with a knotting construction because it is more durable and easier to repair. If you want a wear-resistant batting cage net, choose a hung square net construction over a hung diamond net construction.
- Border: Choose a batting cage net with a vinyl border at every seam with grommets for easy setting up.
