Baseball Netting
Placing a softball net in your backyard is an excellent way for your softball star to hone her skills without the fear of breaking windows or damaging other items. A net can be hung easily with a few simple tools that can be purchased from a local hardware store. In addition, some softball net kits are sold with all parts included, but you will still need to hang the net properly.
Step 1: Try and pick a location away from windows or other fragile items in case the netting is missed.
Step 2: Measure and mark two spots about 9 feet apart on the ground. Dig two holes about 2 feet deep each at these marks.
Step 3: Lay the two 2x4s 9 feet apart from one another on the ground. Place hooks on the outward facing part of each 2x4 - five hooks on each side, starting from the very top of each and spacing each hook about 10 inches apart thereafter. There should be no hooks on the last two feet of each 2x4. The screws may need to be hammered in, or may need to be screwed in depending on the types of hooks purchased.
Step 4: Place each 2x4 into the holes already dug in the ground. Be sure to pack the dirt back in tightly around each 2x4 or, if preferred, you can place a small amount of cement in the holes to add additional support to each pole.
Step 5: Hang the mesh or netting on the hooks. The mesh should be loose so that when a ball is hit it does not bounce back. The net will act as a cushion to keep the ball in the yard, but should be able to give considerably.
